I was interviewed for a role just before Christmas, shortlisted from 200 down to the final 5, didn't get it and was told I was pipped to the post by a person who worked there previously, but otherwise they thought I was an excellent candidate and was someone they would have appointed.

Now, the exact same job has been advertised for a maternity leave contract.

I'm considering reapplying. What are peoples thoughts? I've thought about dropping them a line to see if they would welcome the application but as they are (rightly so) unlikely to prejudice any application they'll probably just tell me apply if I want.

What are you doing now? If your current role is permanent, then it's maybe not worth leaving it for a short term contract that's unlikely to extend.
