At a guess they would have had the brains to have their faces covered while they were doing it. It's unlikely with the scale of damage that it was done with no tools and there's no sign of concrete blocks or stones. If I was to take a guess I would say the emergency hammers from the DART were used, there should be good CCTV coverage from the trains serving the station if this was the case.

Expect more of this tonight and probably tomorrow in 'celebration' of our national drinking day...

Destroyed a bit of a daily mail headline?

Only the few windows were smashed (while still terrible etc we need to stick to the facts)

Lets not make little of what these thugs have done. They "destroyed" the station pure and simple. And hopefully when they are caught and brought to court the judge will see the destruction caused.

Sadly this is just the latest in a long line of station vandalisms. Harmonstown was smashed up a while back, same with Shankill and someone set fire to Greystones there a month or two ago to boot. They get away with this and start it off sadly because these stations are unmanned. :/

Apart from smashing the windows what did they do?

The station was badly damaged, but to suggest it was "destroyed" is going a little too far.

If it were "destroyed" it would not have been open the next day, which it was.

It wasn't "destroyed". If it was, there would be no walls left, no roof left, no ticket window, no plaforms, no operational track, no signals...nothing at all would be left, which is clearly not the case. I am not belittling the actions of these thugs at all, but using over the top terms like "destroy" is a just a shoddy journalistic tactic to sell more papers.

Vandalism is a pretty regular occurrence at Bayside station though. It is a much bigger problem than in other stations in the area. I wonder if Irish Rail / the Gardai have any sort of proper plan to deal with the issue?

They seem to think that CCTV is all that is needed.

Security is not good enough on Irish Rail assets as a whole, trains are regularly covered in graffiti overnight and stations are used as just a magnet for anti-social behaviour since the kids know outside certain times nobody will be there to do anything to stop them.

'Destroyed' suggests that that station was levelled by the Luftwaffe.

Have little faith in the justice system bringing anyone to book, all they're good at is the usual shooting fish in a barrel exercise...like jailing someone who didn't pay their tv licence.

So what if the station is being smashed up just dont bother it clearing up. IE stop rising fares so you can spend money on repairing vandalism just go down the same route as the italian railways i travelled on the trains there and most of the stations and rolling stock are vandalised but the fares are dirt €1 to travel on the Bari suburban services and you can go as far as you like once you can put with vandalised trains and stations.
