Just a quick one regarding possible hay field. I am thinking of maybe trying to make a bit of hay this year as I always make round bale silage. When would you need to take cattle off field and also what is the ideal time to put fertilizer out and what fertilizer is best. Finally would it be good to top it before fertilizer put out. Thanks as always for the info.

Hay is more an accidental process than a planned one in this country. If you get the weather you could win anything, but I wouldn't plan on it for my winter feed needs. Go for silage, and ifthe weather comes, make a bit of hay of some of it.trying to make hay in less than perfect conditions, and ending up wrapping it , you only have shyte at the end of the process.

Exactly, planning to make hay in Ireland is a bit like planning your holidays for Ballybunion.
