Does anyone ever experience anxiety regarding not knowing what to do next with your life? I'll be finishing up a masters degree soon and it'll be the first time I'm not enrolled in school since I started at the age of 5. It's freaking me out that I don't know what I want to do when I finish!

Presumably your education was geared towards a goal of a specific career? Or career in a specific area?

So you go looking for work in that area. Or take some time out if you're not ready for work yet.

I think I'm going to end up taking some time off and trying to figure out what I want. I've changed my career goals so much recently. I'm also from the States and am in Ireland for my masters so I need to decide if I'm going back or staying here!

Oh yeah definitely take some time if you can!

But don't leave it open ended, decide on a timeframe in which to move forward.

Best of luck! I'm also finishing a masters, but it's my second one and I just did it for fun, no career prospects from it!

Perfectly normal. Remember that people can have several careers; your decision is not a binding one forever. You can change your mind :-). So just do something that interests you!

BTW I am 50 now and still actively deciding what to do next. Have done lots of interesting work already and I am still excited by future direction.

Didn't have anxiety when it came to finishing school. My parents were broke and I needed to take out a loan in my final year to get me through it. The choice was out of my hands. I just blasted out 50+ CVs and landed a job. That was back in 2007.

I'm anxious now about my next move. My next step is to settle down, which I'm excited to do. I just don't know where yet. My Fiances family are in the US, my family are in Ireland. I believe Ireland is a better country for raising a family. She doesn't disagree but she's never been away from her family....so, I don't know what to do
