NEO m1 storage space

Hi. A friend of mine has a Chinese phone called a neo m1. He can't update or install more than a handful of apps dispite having more than 3gb of free space. Does he have to repartition the phone? I would be grateful if anyone could post a link explaining how to do it. Thanks
