Ceiling Height and floor to ceiling windows

    Hello all,
I'm interested in people's opinion on this:
For our new build we have a large open plan kitchen/dining/living area. We have a lot of glazing going from floor to ceiling, south west facing. I like the detail where the ceiling meets the window height (no beam above window) we have this detailing all worked out but it means that we will need to drop our ceiling height from 2.8m to 2.65m.
So the question is, is it worth having a lower ceiling for this detail?

Can you not just increase the height of the glazing?

    Thanks kceire for your reply.
if we increase height of the glazing, it gets too heigh and begins to look clunky (in the words of the architect) plus the extra expense of that ... so not an option

In fairness, 2.65m floor to ceiling is still very generous so is imagine you should be fine. But without drawings and sections we can't say for sure. What does your architect say about the height drop?

    Bulkhead detail?

Come 2.65 metres from the window and take it out 300mm, then step up to 2.8m?

That's very similar to what I'll be doing. Glass is 2.6m

Interesting idea - I'll look into this. I am looking for simple clean lines I wonder would a step up effect that. Certainly worth a bit more research into. Thank you.

Architect feels the drop in ceiling height is worth the floor to ceiling window detail ... It's the builder (aka father inlaw!) who thinks we're mad to drop ceiling height for such a large space. So many opinions on every decision to be made on this build.
