Looking For A Cheapish Graphics Card

As title says, i'm looking for a better graphics card for my system, preferably around €100 - €130 (not much i know)

I currently have the ASUS EAH6850 DirectCU 1GB DDR5, it plays most games on medium settings but looking for an upgrade.

Was looking at a Radeon R9 270 Asus R9270-DC2OC on Adverts for a decent price, but i'd probably prefer to get a new one really (I like warranties!)

    Rest of system specs:

    Asus M5A97 R2.0
Athlon II X3 435 (needs upgrading soon also)
    Geil 8GB DDR3 PC3-12800
    128GB SSD
    1TB HDD
Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO Fan
    OCZ ZS Series 650W PSU
    Xonar DG 5.1 Soundcard

What would be a good upgrade that will run games on pretty good settings?

A R9 270 can be gotten new from Hardwareversand for €160 delivered. It'll be an upgrade, but the card you have is better than most at that price range

Cheers, I could look at upgrading the CPU first. Might get an FX6300 or something.

FX-6300 is €100 on hwvs, Don't know where you buy from, but dabs don't have any so I'd use it as the benchmark for pricing

Cheapest i've seen it is on the Spanish Amazon, it's €111 including shipping, i've never used Hardwareversand, i don't like their awkward payment options, like to just pay with Visa or Paypal.

hwvs use paypal, comes to €112. Use Amazon in that case

Ah, i was sure you could only pay on HWVS via bank transfer. When did that change?

I haven't a clue to be honest, I haven't been using them for long but PayPal was always there for me. There is a 3% charge via PayPal however

CEX sell the R9 270X for 140 and it comes with 12 month warranty.

Definitely get a new processor first as that one will be a severe bottleneck in most games - it would bottleneck the 6850 even in quite a few games.

Also consider going Intel, Am3 is a dead end platform, you could get a Pentium Anniversary G3258 + basic H81 board for a similar price to a Fx6300 on its own. Stellar performer for the money, overclocks very well, and gives you tons of future upgrade potential with the latest Intel socket.

It's what I would do, and on top of that you should get 50-60 back from your old motherboard/X3 cpu so the net cost would only be about 50-60.

Might be worth trying that. Can the G3258 be nicely overclocked even on a cheapo H81 board?

Can be pretty easily overclocked to 4.0gHz on a decent board, not sure the exact ins and outs of overclocking though
