Hi guys iv a mate with a small office around 3meters by 3 meters. Says the oil filled electric heater costing a fortune. He wants a second hand oil burner & 2 rads put in but I think a lot of work for such a small space. He's only in office 2 hours a week but it's to keep damp away! Opinions appreciated !!?????????

    Not worth the cost.
Would be very inefficient as all the heat demand would be around
15000-18000 btus and an the lowest an oil burner can go is around 50000 btus oi
Look into farho heaters they are a more efficient electric heater can be put on a timer

Completely agree with Robbie, way too much trouble and cost for his requirements.
Cost of boiler, oil tank, pipework, rads, a fill of oil and installation wouldn't be justified.
Two other problems he may have would be permission from the owners of the office and getting an installer to stand over a second hand boiler.

Buy a dehumidifier first eg :

    http://www.citycool.ie/dehumidifiers.html

dessicant ones work better at lower temperatures, warm the air slightly, BUT a use a bit more power

refrigererant ones are not so good at lower temperatures but use less power

this will reduce damp without any black magic/voodoo/opening doors of a 8th of whenever

its a tiny space anyway -

Better insulation then just use electric heating. I can't see it costing too much too run if he's only in there 2 hours / week and say run it for 30 mins each day.

It must have a lot of external surface area. This could be insulated. It is not cheap, but cheaper than putting in oil heating.

This is also a situation where a storage heater might make sense (since it is office rather than domestic use, and the heat is needed during the day, not in the evening.

The Farho won't be any more efficient than the heater he already has.

Just back from 5 nights on the boat. Used a desiccant dehumidifier, timed for five hours a day for the winter. All completely dry - no damp. Use a heater for the 2 days occupied.

+1 on the Farho - our entire office building is done with them.

I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”
