Nearly always worth ringing a Garda station first with the reg to check if the car is listed as stolen.

They won't tell you. Data Protection and all that.

A law written by the sort of mind who's sparkplug is triggering a bit too far after top dead centre, if you catch my drift.

Does Ireland offer anything like the HPI and VOSA checks in the UK? unless you are a numpty its hard to get screwed over, all the MOTs and service records are logged on almost every car. Crashes too.

Motorcheck and cartell. Very hard to feel sorry for people who hand over a large sum of money on a private sale, not do a background check first and get scammed with these services available.

Strange one as no personal data is being passed on. All you want to know is if the car is currently listed as stolen or not.

Yep. I've never had an issue with asking Gardai to do this. No identifying information is being given and I always just ask if there is any reason that I shouldn't buy the car.

As I recall, that's specifically the reason why Cartell doesn't bring up a Stolen flag....
