I was on 12 weeks work only to come back home and find my 03 Citroen c3 1.4 hdi would not start, thought it had no diesel but that was fine.
a scan was carried out and says ecu not found.
    Whats that about??

Try charging the battery? Voltage might be marginal and ecu could be in some antisocial mode because of it?

Otherwise maybe you have a leak or a rodent problem in the time away?

I was using a fully charged battery and no pests problems. Thought it was out of diesel as sounded like that when trying to start it

It means the scanner was not able to establish communication with the ecu.

Maybe because the scanner is not capable on this car or a wiring problem or a problem with the ecu.

Check all fuses. On my MX5 once managed to short something and blow the fuse for the ECU. Wouldn't start, no diagnostics, no nothing.
Otherwise it could mean the ECU crapped itself and that would be very bad.
