its nearly 4 years since the closure of mb dealer cunningham higgins and hard to believe no sign of a new dealer for west of ireland ( no dealer in west between limerick and donegal) . surely with models like the a class , cla and gla helping to improve mb sales nationally someone would be interested in the franchise ?
would imagine mercedes would let a dealer rent presentable premises for a while before building new premises. considering the success of the mb distributor owned MSL CORK , its surprising msl have not taken it on.

Mind you galway was left without a bmw dealer for 5 years until the recent opening of colm quinn bmw !

What about Tim Hastings in Westport?

I'm fairly sure Westport is between Limerick and Donegal.

    Not Mercedes dealers any more.

Franchise went late last year. As far as I know Hastings is owned by VW now.

Ah who wants a merc anyway! Old man car :pac:

    Hmmm interesting.

    Their website says the following:
We are also approved agents for Mercedes Benz service
That definitely doesn't look like mercedes dealer anymore.

But their Mercedes brand signings on the building is definitely still there.
Or at least was yesterday when I was driving by.

Last time I dropped into Hastings, they had a couple of second hand Mercs but no new stuff.
This seemed odd to me so I looked at the mercedes ireland site and yes, just mercedes service now which is a shame as they actually managed to build the required premises etc.
There is a big gap in the network in the west no doubt.
Have been interested in having a look at new C class but nowhere nearby.
Audi have sligo, ballina and galway, bmw have sligo and galway. Mercedes nothing.

yes dealers who lost the franchise and are just service seem to still look like main dealers which is confusing ( should be made take down signs) , annesley williams in dublin lost the franchise but have all the signs still up , are buying in used mercs ( have more used mercs than ever) and have the only amg cla45 in the country .

Anesley Williams don't seem to be very good at returning calls, or responding to emails. I'm waiting over a month now to get my sbc pump sorted on my e200. They were supposed to get back to me to book my car in. Very disappointing. Ill be dropping into them on Monday if they don't return my call. Nothing worse than ignorant customer service.

Serves Mercedes right with the way they dripped Western motors in the good times

cant believe annesley williams ( who were once a very good and successful merc dealer ) built showrooms a few years ago for skoda but then leased out the showrooms to someone else and moved skoda in with merc . in their outdated main showrooms
if they had of just used these new showrooms as a merc showroom , they would still be main dealer and benefiting from the sucess of their current range. jim williams is no longer involved in business , his son obviously is'nt into mercs. like his father was !

Merc only for now as far as I'm aware, not sure who the money men are behind it but same crowd as before opening

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,700 ✭✭✭goochy

they are very large premises just for mercedes , wonder if joe duffys are behind it /, they bought vw dealer commons road recently. its a pity gilmores are so far north - very good dealer and very good premises.Proves you dont have to be in a city and selling loads of cars to be a decent mb dealer and hae good premises.

Who is going to open a Merc dealership? Mayo will never see one again. In the late 70's Mayo had four opel dealerships, now it had none!!, galway will be ok, after that Connaught will be deprived of dealerships!. Ros town has just vw&toyota left. Renault seems to have found new homes in Mayo, galway and clare easily after their old homes were lost.

Not Joe Duffy, they did buy Commons Rd in Navan and rumour to have bid for Newgate Motor site, lovely site in a good location all be it off M3 but with Toyota, Nissan and Ford on same road must be something happening there..

I don't know why you think mayo couldn't support a mercedes dealer for the West covering galway mayo sligo etc.
Mercedes are dropping slot of sales by not having an outlet.
Still I suppose it helps the exclusivity factor.
Audi A6 and 5 series bmw are now so common that I wouldn't buy one.
In the smaller category, the new C class is a country mile ahead of audi A4 and bmw 3 series in terms of styling and really should be selling like hot cakes.

The Galway people would not travel to Mayo to buy a Merc. Perhaps if Merc took back the import franchise from MDL there might be more of an effort. AUDI have done well with their marketing and dealership shake ups/ rebranding etc.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,700 ✭✭✭goochy

MDL are rubbish , there are x2 audi and x2 bmw dealers in the west of ireland and no merc. dealers. yet mdl built MSL cork - a very impressive dealer and successful - if they built a similar dealership in galway it would do great business.

i would imagine if MDL still imported vw and audi they would not be doing half as well as they are now

    Spot on.

I'm really pîssed off at Annesley Williams now. They are just full of BS and have very poor customer care skills.

I contacted them Feb 9th about upgrading the sbc hose, which was a job other W211s were getting done as a goodwill repair, due to the noisy sbc pump. They never called me back to book my car in, which they said they would. I sent an email a couole of weeks later and got no reply. I called several times and never got the service department until oddly enough, I rang from the land line. This was March 23rd. I booked in for the service work that was outstanding on their system (free of charge stuff) and requested an auto vehicle, which I need. They gave me a date for tomorrow with an agreement that I would have an auto car available, at a cost of €30 for the half day.

Today, I get an email to say they can't give me a car. They had other breakdowns and had to loan cars to other customers

I complained, telling them that I didn't appreciate their treatment etc etc. I got a reply, to say that they could give me a 151 skoda superb and i needed to check with my insurance if i could be covered on it  . The thing is, i don't give a damn what car it was, as long as it was clean and was an auto. The rest of my complaint was not even acknowledged. I told them where to go. Blood boiling!!!
