Not sure if this is in the right place, perhaps the Mods might move it if necessary. I have a dilemma and need help please !
I promised I'd do the above event with a friend who has been brilliant including me in her group and sending me training schedules etc. I went to register today and it's full !! My friend thinks I've already registered. Entirely my fault but I can't face telling her.
I rang Barretstown today and didn't have any luck. Has anyone done this event before. Can I turn up and just join in on the day. I'm quiet happy to hand over the cash as a donation or whatever. Do people 'sell' their spots nearer the event like they do for the Mini marathon. Any advice please, I'm desperate.

I'm not sure, most events don't allow numbers to be transferred to another person. If the event is full it's unlikely you'll be able to enter on the day.

    3 things to consider:

    1. if your mate is brilliant and you are a good friend to her, you better fess up quick and come clean, she'll get over it, its not the end of the world
    2. I doubt the organisers can close the Dublin Mountains for the event so I would imagine they cant stop you from following the route with your friend. you just wont have the support & benefits of participating in the event so if you fall and break your ankle you are on your own - id do it any way, maybe join the route a bit away from the official start line(this might be terribile advice buts its what Id do if I really wanted to do it)
    3. hope your friend is not a boardsie!

You are spot on Rantan, I'm gonna fess up and put up with the slagging. I've managed to get my name on a cancellation list. Either way I'm going to continue the training (really enjoying it) and turn up on the day. I'll throw the registration money in the buckets and just do the walk.

My understanding was that this event is designed as a "hike" and that they do not encourage you to run it. There is a group from work participating and I inquired if I could run it and was told no!

I know they can't close off the route, but if there are a lot of people laden down with gear and walking poles it might be better to find another day anyway.
