Cost repairing scratch

This am I had an incident at a junction where it's unclear who has right away. There was a smallish scratch on the other car (haven't even checked mine) maybe 3 inches at max. The driver took it straight to an expensive body repair shop and is sending me a quote later today. I'm really surprised she bothered as it looked like it could be buffed away. Repair place has said there is some damage. Raging I didn't take a photo now. I feel like I'm about to be fleeced. As there's no obvious right away where this happened am I responsible?and what's a reasonable cost for 3 inch scratch on average model car

Let the insurance companies deal with it. That's what you pay them for.

Depends where the scratch is. Were the Gardai called or did you admit responsibility given they are sending you the quote?

If you were at fault they can take it wherever they want to get it fixed and you'll just have to lump it. You could pay for it yourself if you wanted to rather than going through the insurance.

If it's really not clear cut let the insurance look into it.

Thanks all. It's really unclear who is responsible. Happens lots at that point in our estate. I didn't call the guards but raging now. Don't mind paying if it's my fault but think it is. Garda called to a previous similar incident at same spot said that it's usually 50:50. My car is actually dinged, hers only scratched. Going to suggest we call it quits and if that doesn't suit leave it to ins co's.

If it was at all your fault, it's probably better not to get the insurance company involved as it will impact on your no claims bonus and it's most likely that it'll cost you more than an expensive repair in increased premiums.

How much were you quoted for the damage?

She hasn't sent through quote yet. I have protection on my no claims bonus so should be ok from that perspective. It happened at a junction in our estate that's unclear in terms of who has the right away. There's a play school in the estate and there's been lots of similar incidents as parents rush in / out dropping off kids. Am thinking maybe best to let ins co determine who is responsible
