Can you claim tax back when declaring a car off the road?

    I was told you could, but when I went in with the form the woman behind the counter looked confused and lost as if even the system behind it confused her.

    Can you only claim back if your scrapping the car/ in the army/ or leaving the country? Are they that strict on the rules?

    Apply on the RF120 form and see what happens. It lists the valid "excuses", but you MUST have >3 months tax on it

    So either you come up with an elaborate excuse or you leave it taxed. Love this country.

    The UK system for tax is decent enough, sell or declare it OTR and you are automatically refunded the balance.
    Here its a one way valve, money doesn't come back very easily if at all.

    You can declare that vehicle wasn't used in public place since taxed, and then you'll get a refund.
