Stuck a query up this eve on a thread started by HillFarmer regarding slats for cattle and sheep,
My question relates to success of sheep slats placed over old cattle slats,if anyone gets a chance please glance at that thread on the main farming forum and reply to it,
    Thanks.

Just refreshing this...would have hoped someone would have had experience (either good or bad) of putting sheep slats down in a cattle slatted shed?

    Thanks for any replies.

Do you want premade slats or you want to manufacture them yourself?

Tbh I would not be too skilled re carpentry so premade ideally....depending on price costs.

From perspective of any sheep slats, homemade or premade some of questions I had re putting them down on top of cattle slats were
1-the cattle slats are down over 10 yrs,are the V shape style ones ie- they get narrower underneath the surface which makes it easier to scrape them with a shovel when washing out the shed.
2-have people with sheep slats down over cattle slats found that dirt gathers directly on top of the cattle slats (as they block the sheep dung going down from area the cattle slat covers IYKWIM)
3-I would imagine mesh slats would be more effective than wooden at letting the sheep dung down (or is that true??)
4- would prob feed the ewes silage to make their dung wetter and easier then to drop down through sheep and then cattle slats easier.
5- would prob not be lambing the ewes on these slats, only feeding them pre
lambing....as would be concious that the deep cattle slats tank underneath would be draughty...it's an open sided slatted shed.

Thanks for any replies, feel free to pm me if you prefer that Kevin.

Could you use 4 or 6 inch blocks strategically placed on the concrete slats, to leave clearance and allow the pellets go down?
Would the setup be any draftier than any other slatted shed?
