Think you have to show your SV card to get the €5.... €8 if not a 'customer' with a card.

How do you get a rewards card?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 71,120 ✭✭✭✭L1011

The conventional card - pick one up at customer services.

The magic "gold" card that's been mentioned here a few times is only in some stores and this doesn't appear to be it anyway.

I hardly ever drink coke, once every few months at least, but it's still handy to keep a few chilled in the fridge for anyone calling that wants to help themselves

I hope there's some in both SuperValu's in Carlow, if not it'll be off to Dunnes for €6 I guess.

I'm not sure what you mean to be totally honest but if you go to the BargainAlerts home page there's a button that says follow, tap on that and everyday around 12am you'll get an email telling you about all the day's threads. Hope this helps.

I meant for supervalu's offers specifically, the OP said he got a text message from SV about the offer and i want to know, how to sign up to receive these messages from SV

You need to get a loyalty card from a shop and sign up online with the tag and opt in to text alert offers

pretty sh1t the way Supervalue have offers in some stores and then not in others, that crap wrecks my head. I've also noticed that they fleece their customers in small rural towns too; their prices on branded goods tend to be cheaper in city center stores and more expensive for the same thing in rural locations.

Franchise setup means that individual shops can opt out. Its the only franchised supermarket in the country but all the convenience stores are the same - a Spar/Eurospar, Mace or Centra offer is not going to be in every store.

The pricing is down to the franchiser too, and the rural ones likely have far lower volume to work on price-wise.

I dunno, I just see it as profiteering from people in rural areas. I've a mate who lives in Loughrea in Galway, for years Supervalue were the only supermarket in town so had a captive market of the whole town and its hinterlands. She said the prices were horrendous for some items. Then Lidl came along and finally gave consumers some choice and the local Supervalue finally began dropping its prices. They're still in business to this day so it seems to me that their business is perfectly viable when offering people value for money. It also seems to me that they were fleecing the locals for years till Lidl came along to make them honest. Of course its peoples choice to shop there or not but my friend says their profiteering left a bad taste in her mouth and she never shops there any more on a point of principle. And also because Lidl are a good bit cheaper too.

Its a little bit of both; but volume is still a huge factor. Supervalus, despite the national name, are often basically local shops that have gone over-scale but with local shop cost bases. Your franchiser has to handle all his headoffice costs for a single shop (or a small number of shops) whereas for one of the nationals its shared across the entire island or multiple countries.

I don't think so, that's 67cent each. They are often below 50cent a can in multipacks. 2L of cokes were going for 5 for €5 in tesco recently.
