Whatever happened to the "A car loses half of it's value when it drives off the forecourt" adage

i don't think that was ever a thing?

Half it's value after the first 3 years maybe.

I always heard it was 1k as soon as it was driven away.

It's worth what the market will pay for it. I can't imagine a strong market for one.

You are also battling against Nissan's current scrappage deal also which makes a brand new Micra even cheaper which will push down resale values of used ones further.

Check the usual sales sites and see if you can find what others are trying to get for theirs.
At the end of the day it's worth what someone is willing to pay.

There are 7 142 Micra's on Carzone, all in dealers. The cheapest is €13500 with 1k km.

€12500 would buy that car, so yours will pull less than that.

You can get a brand new one under the scrappage scheme for €12k excl metallic paint:

You wanna bet? These are deeply unpopular nowadays, its rental fodder.
You can buy one brand new for less than €12000 and they're still not shifting that many.

    10k.

    What's a 151 demo model/ex rental/used worth in that case?

Where are you buying a new one for 12k?

New micra, €15095, €4k scrappage. Add €1k for delivery etc

I think hitting a 6-9 month old car for 7k because of a limited scappage scheme is excessive!
Come on it has to be worth 10k.
Take a look on carzone etc.

    Watch it not sell...

If new ones are 12k, selling a 7 month old one privately will only get €9k. Advertise €9,999 and take the first offer over €9k

Since Renault bought Nissan, quality has nosedived. I'd sooner have an old K12 Micra than a new one. Had a rental one there recently, they feel like they're made of tinfoil.

Latest Micra is a major drop in quality. It's a car aimed at emerging amrkets rather than Europe now. Feels very cheaply made and low rent.
Not comparable with a Fiesta, Polo or Clio anymore.

Curious, why is she selling it on so soon?

They're built in India now I think.

Thought it was Thailand myself but either way, illustrates where the car is now aimed. The 90s micra led its class in many ways, particularly reliability and build. Now it's just second rate.
