Leap Card inspection on Luas

Hi I hardly ever get on the Luas but I've often wondered about how the ticket inspectors check that you have paid your fare when using a Leap card. Do they have a handheld scanner or something or do people just show them their card and that's good enough for them?

They use a handheld reader which can tell them if and where you tagged on, the time and date and the credit remaining on your card. Same on Irish rail.

they do have a scanner and it has 2 lights

    Green and Red

Green means you are tagged-on valid for 90 mins

Red means you didn't scan your card on the scanner outside every luas stops.

Note: This only works for leapcards.

As for Luas tickets the reason they don't scan it is because there are dates and times on it for when it is valid only.

    Hope that helps.

They are also able to view the last 5 transactions on the card.

Unsure if they can read what tickets are on it.

    Yes they can

Reader should show green if a valid monthly or annual luas ticket held even if not tagged on
