The big square camera light things on top of the traffic lights. Are these cameras which take pictures of someone who runs a red light or what?

They take surveys of traffic flow etc. To get clearer picture of traffic build up and causes

So they dont actually take pictures and report the guards if you run a red. I accidental ran a red..no one was at the light.. so really worried about a penalty point.

As said, nothing to worry about. It's not a camera just a sensor to monitor traffic so they can change the timing of the lights.

Most are radar based sensors. They monitor traffic and can be used to adjust the light sequences.

There are one or two Red light cameras in Dublin near Heuston and the Luas lines. I'm fairly sure they are only on trial and not operational, they've been there for years.
