Anyone know where I can get car insurance for a couple of months, my own crowd say they only do yearly.

You can't. You need to take it out for a year and then cancel when not needed, getting a partial refund.

Most/all will do yearly. However you can start a policy and then cancel it after a few months.

Just watch out for the high administrative charge contained in the terms and conditions of how much is forfeited for early cancellation. This should form part of your consideration of your most appropriate insurance.

Most likely cancellation charges will be extremely high.
    F.e annual policy costs 1000.
If you cancel after 6 month, you might get 100 euro back, so 6 months cost you 900.

However this does not apply after first year of policy.
So if you already have a policy, just renew it, and cancel mid year, and you should get back 50% of the premium.

Take out the policy and pay it direct debit monthly, when you want to cancel just ring up and cancel this way you won't get caught with a fee

    Of course you will.
Fact that you pay by direct debit doesn't mean that cancellation charged doesn't apply.
If you cancel mid year, and by that according to their rules you are liable to pay 90% of your premium, but you paid only 50% so far by direct debit, it means that remaining 40% becomes due when you cancel, and you have to pay it there and then, or insurer will be chasing you.
Same was as if you stopped paying your bills when you are on contract.

I cancelled my insurance mid policy last year with liberty to take out a trade policy with champion, cancelled the direct debit even got no claims letter a few days later..no hassle and never heard a thing.
Can't say iv ever heard of them charging 90% of a policy
