Is what she is smoking any of your business ?

What do you want to do?

It's clear from your post that you think she is smoking something illegal but has it occurred to you she might be smoking rolling tobacco or herbal cigs?

As for only taking up smoking in the last year, what's that go to do with anything, people give up all the time and restart again because of a moment of weakness or stressful point in there lives. Once a smoker, always a smoker as they say. I was off them 10 years and started again..means nothing!

My advice would be stop looking out your window at her, she has every right to be smoking on her property and if you have an issue with privacy put up a fence.

Take up smoking and keep asking her for a fag as she stands outside. She'll soon get sick of you and smoke somewhere else.

Report your suspicions to the cop that the cigarettes she smokes are not ordinary.

You may get a look that is not ordinary.

Apologies for the thread drift but I have a similar problem with my neighbour, every time I go out the back for a quick fag he's there watching me through his patio door which is directly opposite mine, he just stands there watching and apparently trying to sniff my smoke.
I've mentioned it to one of my lodgers who happens to be a Garda but he says theres nothing I can do about it.
I've only noticed it since I started smoking last year, is there anything I can do about it...?

Why don't you thank your lucky stars that's all she is doing. You could have a neighbour that has several dogs barking day and night and before anyone chirps in that at least then you could do something about that is only the case if it is not a privately owned house and even then little enough can be done. My point is, is she really bothering you and how come you always are there when she is having a smoke. As for "Reporting your suspicions to the cop", man get a life, thats that's kind of attitude that makes this country such a narrow minded inward looking place. Why not, mind your own business on your own property.

So you're stood there being a pest smoking at the back door, he has a habit of staring at you. Both equally odd habits to be frank.

I don't like the smell of smoke and my neighbour no doubt isn't fond of opera, but within certain limits you have to live and let live.

    1. Tell your neighbour that there is something good on boards.ie and that she is better off wasting time there than standing looking into the neighbours'
    2. Start a joint leylandia project with your neighbour. You may find that you have a lot in common

How were you allowed have patio doors facing her garden, it's normally a planning no no?

I assume the gable end of the OP's house faces the gable end of the neighbour's house, both having an entrance on opposing sides.

Whatever the aspect of both houses, a person of ordinary sensibilities would probably install blinds, or at least have the foresight to realize that bashing a 6-foot-wide hole in your house, in clear view of your neighbour, will diminish your privacy.
