If you book 4 days in advance one way fares on the train can be good value.. Not sure about the buses but check their websites and you'll find out

    www.buseireann.ie

    www.aircoach.ie

I got a price of €21 return (Dublin to Cork) with Aircoach.

Bus Eireann's GoBe non stop bus to Cork is 13 euros one way and 22 euros return. The price is the same no matter what time of day you travel at. It departs from Busaras, so you don't have to cough up more money to get the LUAS down to Heuston station to get the train.

Irish Rail do not have one fixed train fare to Cork. The online fares start at 14.99 each way & go up to 36.99 each way.The fares vary depending on the time of the day you travel, the day you travel, how far in advance you book and whether you book on line, or in person at the station.

I have abandoned getting the Aircoach to Dublin. I just get the Go bus now. It always seems quieter than the Aircoach anyway.
