Detective shows. Monk or Columbo?

I've never watched any of Columbo, but have seen Monk, and think Monk is an enjoyable show overall. Some say, Columbo is a similar show to Monk. Is this true? Just that Columbo doesn't have Monk's phobias etc. And there isn't as much comedy In your opinion, which is the better show of the two?

Columbo is worth a watch. Monk is a bit more light hearted. Columbo is a more clever show though.
