    First rule of formation flying, decide who the lead is and make sure number two keeps him in sight. If not break off in the agreed direction.

    Number two lost sight of the leader and hit him.

    One of them was an experienced ex military pilot apparently.

    Both pilots went to military flight schools.

    The Pair of helicopters were squirrels.

    Reports suggest it could have been due to a blind spot, up draughts or sun shining in one of the pilots' eyes.
