hi iam buying an old cottage and want to make it liveable for bout a year before I build on!
it is a two bed at the min will be making into a 3 bed eventually, it has a septic tank at the min(I don't now if registered as couple who used to own it passed a few years back and people who own it now live in England) am I able to use the tank that is in it for a year or is there a test or anything I need done before moving in? how do you now if a septic tank is good enough or that you need a treatment system? who and how much does it cost for a test to be done?

Did you get an engineer to check all these things out? If /when the Co. Council check these old systems, you could be required to upgrade your septic tank. This could run to €1000s. This should be factored into the cost of the cottage.

Excellent you are been pro active, I'm speaking from experience with my wife's house. The whole system was wrong and if we ever wanted to sell we had to rectify the mistakes. This is now done and it cost us many €1000s.
