She was allocated 4.25 and was getting these and she also gets 90 mins a day eng maths group for 3 days? Is there anyone in the know on here im not even sure I wanna fight as the 1-1 my girl is supposed to be getting is her and the computer!

Resouce has been cut and we have been told that it does not have to be 1 to 1 either. Children are supposed to receive learning support OR resource but not both.

So eventhough we have 4.25 hrs I get cut for no reason and they just decide how to allocate?

Are you counting the English/Maths as part of the provision? Is it possible the child is getting in-class support (there might be station teaching etc.) going on?

The DES says that children who have resource hours should have their needs met within those hours, be it in-class support, withdrawal in a group or very rarely now, one to one. In other words , a child doesn't get learning support on top of resource, they are entitled to one or the other but not both.

When do you think the cut-if this is what is is-happened?
I'd suggest you make an appt to talk to the resource teacher and look for clarification.
Worth mentioning the the proposed new model for SEN will actually do away with ring-fenced resource hours too and that all the needs of of the school will have to be met from a general allocation rather than separate resource/ learning support allocations.

Oh and schools that have done well in Drumcondra/Sigma/Micra will have their allocation cut even further.

ARe you saying your child has been granted 4.25 hours per week with 1-1 teaching on the computer or am I misreading it. I have never heard of an allocation like this.

    .

The proposed new model has been postponed/abandoned.

    From the INTO website...

The DES has announced it will not change the way teachers are allocated to schools for children with Special Educational Needs for the coming school year.

The Minister said today that in making this decision to retain the current model for allocating resource and learning support teachers for the coming year, she was guided by the advice of the NCSE Working Group that sufficient time should be allowed for further consultation to take place with the education stakeholders before the new model is implemented in schools.

The Minister said that she had asked her Department to design a pilot of the new model which schools could opt into on a voluntary basis. The Minister also said that continuing consultation with stakeholders will be a vital part of the ongoing work.

It definitely won't be seen before the election, if ever.

It certainly has NOT be abandoned. I was at the ILSA Spring Conference last week and the NCSE, NEPS and cigire were all full steam ahead.

Did they put a date on it?

    16-17 at latest.

At earliest I'd say. Inspectors, NEPS and NCSE are not political bodies so they'd go ahead as soon as possible. But this government isn't going to reduce resource hours in middle class areas in the run up to a general election.

Allocations for 2016/17 would be known before the General election if the govt. goes full term so I'll have a friendly wager with you that they'll find another reason to stall next year.

Is that full steam ahead with the pilot?

We'd be delighted to opt in as it's a battle to get anything these days!
A GAM I presume would mean it goes purely on school numbers (no ed psych forms/tests etc)? Is that correct? (I'm secondary BTW but presume the proposals apply to both levels!)

byhookorbycrook - Hi just a question - the school never got me to sign the form to apply for resource for september? does this mean the school wont avail of my girls hours (4.25 this year) or will it follow through without my signature as her hours have been greatly cut now.

    Thanks

I don't think we needed to go through the full application process for existing pupils so the school wouldn't have needed to you to sign forms again.

Is Social Communication Disorder listed for resource hours?

Haven't seen it specifically listed but it would be covered under Autistic Spectrum Disorder I think? It's a relatively new diagnosis, isn't it?
