Question about set up

Hi guys, I'm vaping almost 2 weeks now and its been working out great. I started with a 20w istick and an aspire maxi tank. That's been working great but I said that I'd upgrade to the 50w istick and aspire nautilus , just for a better to experience really and so I'd have a good back up in the 20w and aspire maxi.

Anyways, received the 50w and nautilus today, filled it and I'm a bit underwhelmed really. It doesn't seem to to produce much vapour in comparison to my previous set up. I have adjusted the voltage up to 3.8v but I've never had to have it up that high on the other set up,3.7v maybe.

Oh and I've gone through the different air intakes but still doesn't seem to be as good, can anyone shed some light? Thanks!!!!

I've never used an aspire Maxi so can't compare the 2. I use all my devices in variable wattage mode rather than variable voltage which will kindnof be explained by this post.

What resistance (ohms) was the coil you were using in the maxi? What resistance is the coil in the nautilus? Unless this figure is the same, the end result will not be the same using the same voltage setting. If you use wattage mode instead of volts then the end result will be the same.

See, when you set the voltage, the device reads the coil and sends out the appropriate wattage, so a 1.6 and 2.1 coil will give out different results (wattage) if they're both set to 3.7 volts. If you used both coils set to for example 12w, they'd perform identically.

In a nautilus you'll either be using 1.6 or 1.8 coils, so using ohms law, 3.8 volts isn't really that high. Click 3 times to enter wattage mode and then start at 10w and keep going up in .5 increments until you hit your sweet spot.

    TL;DR version:

VV is like manual, VW is like automatic. Set to VW and don't look back :D

Thanks so much!!! That's cleared things up for me. The maxi according to the 20w is 1.9 ohm and the nautilus is 2.0 so not much in it. It could be a discrepancy in the 20w because apparently they give a different reading to their actual output so I'm just going to start at 10w and go from there.

Thanks for your help! This thread is a thread is a lifesaver, the shops locally don't really seem to have much knowledge!!!

No problem! Yeah, I never owned the 20w but I heard about the power issue. Maybe 3.7 volts on the 20w is more like 4.3 on the 50w making the new setup seem underpowered.

Yeah, this forum is great, I haven't been here long and the help has been invaluable. Just don't look at the "vape porn" or "show your setup" threads unless you have either deep pockets or strong will power...

On the nautilus I usually hit between 10-12w without hassle, on the 1.8 coils. I use the largest air hole too, if that makes much difference? This is using the newer vertical coils [BVC], when I used the older coils [BDC?] I would get burning at 10w sometimes :/ Just make sure you ask for, or order the newer BVC coils - they're far better. You'll know that's the ones you have when you look down into the coil itself, and see a round grid with a hole in the centre. With theolder ones you could plainly see the sideways/horizontal coil and cotton/wick

Yeah that could be it alright. I've started using it at 10w and there's a big improvement. Haha I've been avoiding those threads, I'm the kind of person that has to have the newest gadget, very happy with the istick so far because of the comfort of holding it, it doesn't fall over and has a battery indicator.
That should be enough for me for the moment.... I hope.

The 50w is too much for your current needs.
The Nautilus will work just fine on the 20w, I'd go for the 1.6 coils and set it to 6w and work up in small increments until you find what satisfies you.
Now in the 50w iStick you have a totally different beast, its really made for much better atomisers than the trusty Nautilus.
If you want to future proof your vape experience I'd recommend an Aspire Atlantis, or Kanger Sub ohm mini tanks.
With both of these you can use the decent 1.2ohm coils for starters and then in the future go for the astoundingly good 0.5ohm coils. When set to wattage mode, both of these tanks cruise at 25-30w for most people using the 0.5 and at 15w-ish for the 1.2 ohm coils. Of course your taste may differ.

The TL:DR version is, buy a better tank for the 50w which will allow you to increase your vaping power as you progress along the vaping path. I'd say 90% of us have started with basic equipment and had to buy buy buy as our needs increased. You and the current generation have come in at a time where great cheap stuff is available and you can make one good purchase and be set for a long time.
