Probably not as good as spotify, but Google Play music is £3 for 3 months here. I used a UK vpn, not sure if its needed. Irish credit card was ok.
It was on hotukdeals too, but this is the best working link:

easy way to get rid of the paypal credit ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,799 ✭✭✭MiskyBoyy

Yeah it works for Irish users without VPN. Says €3 for me which is better again (than £3) :)

As I've used a google play trial before tho the offer wasn't valid for my main Google account but works for a secondary account.

I signed up yesterday. It seems nowhere near as good as spotify (I have premium) but I will give it a go since its free!

To get for free, I combined the above offer with the €3 euro Google play voucher offer also listed in the bargain alert thread. I can't post a link as apparently im still a "new user"!

Nice one. Had just finished a free 2 month trial with Google Play music so another 3 months for free. Only thing is it wont have my library on this account(dont think you can upload to two different accounts?) but Im not complaining.

You can upload up to 50,000 of your own songs for cloud storage and access with Play Music too. Even if you dont keep up the sub the cloud storage.streaming part is free, so well worth it.

Thought I was being smart with the UK VPN, I just assumed it didnt apply to Irish users, as most Google offers dont

I'm already a regular subscriber and this is the reason why I choose it over the likes of Spotify. Being able to plug the gaps that are missing in their music library is brilliant.

Anyone have an easy way to move spotify playlists over?

Do you mean the amount of content, or the interface?

I'm coming to the end of 3 months for the price of 1 on Spotify, i was just going to stick with it as i really like it but this offer has given me something to think about.

I've also got 6 free months of google music to use up after buying a chromecast, i wonder will that credit expire at some point.

The UI is better than Spotify IMO. Everything from queuing songs to browsing seems to make more sense in terms of layout. It tends to crash the odd time on my Galaxy S3 though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,026 ✭✭✭✭adox

Ive been trialing quite a few recently and my favourite has been Beats Music.
Still, Google Pay Music for free for 3 months so I`m happy enough.

I signed up to the Youtube music Key that somebody posted here - free until August and got Play Music free wit it... until August.

Do you mean the amount of content, or the interface?

Google Music has a little less music with around 18 million tracks vs Spotify's 20 million (or so I've read a while back) but as Sappy mentioned Google Music has a nicer interface (also IMO!). Spotify feels "busier" somehow. Spotify has better social and collaboration features but that, to me, is actually a turn off as I want a music player, not another social network with messaging and people "following" me.

The stand out feature which is ultimately the reason I went with GPM is that 50,000 song personal upload, so I can add anything that's not in the library, mostly famous "hold outs" like AC/DC or the Beatles.

Another nice feature is the built in Chromecast support which can be very handy for parties. I imagine this is something Spotify will eventually add as well.

To chip in, I really like Google Music. Huge selection of music and it's gotten really good at recommending me new music. The new feature of "mood" playlists is a nice addition. I've found I can stick one on and let it play away... skipping the odd track here and there. The playlists are very easy to manage too. The web interface is easy to navigate and the mobile app is clean and simple.

Is it 50,000 files exactly, or is there a storage limit that is approx 50,000 songs?

Says 50k songs and when I was uploading there for first time it said I had space for 50k songs left so I guess it's to the exact number?

I dumped over a decades worth of mp3s (which I'd acquired from numerous sources over the years) onto a PC last year. Setup google music manager on the PC. It scanned the folders and added them to my collection. Pretty sure if it recognises the song it doesn't physically upload it but just adds it anyhow.

The limit last year was I think 20k songs. I'd approx 18k in my music collection. Using google music player on my phones and tablets I'd access to either stream any of it or select songs/albums to download and keep on a particular device. Very useful feature. Easy to add or remove what music from your collection you have on each device.

Any new music I acquire, I add to the PC and music manager program automatically uploads and adds to my collection. Very happy they've recently increased collection size to 50k songs.

Overall I think it is a good app, especially for free. Haven't bothered signing up for the add-on services yet.

  • I can't avail of this offer with my free play credit. As soon as I click to be forwarded onto the PayPal site the whole browser tab freezes up and my laptop goes mental (fans start going like the clappers).

Its 50000 songs regardless of length or bit rate.

So you could merge a bunch of mp3's into one file and upload that? Might be a way to upload complete albums, 50K of them!

That's 6-10 years listening, never stopping not even for sleep, to hear each song once :pac:

I suppose technically you could but it'd be a hell of a lot of effort and then trying to find a specific song from that album would be a nightmare! :P

I only have 8000 songs on my computer and don't listen to half of them so I don't think I'd ever get close to the 50,000 limit!

put it in your calendar for just under 3 months, you will get notifications so you dont forget

Yes! Nice one! It was freezing in Chrome but worked in Firefox!

The Chrome add-in/'app' for uploading your music library is dog slow. The Music manager is a lot faster (you'll be prompted to install if you use a browser other than Chrome)

    Lovely

And it took the €3 credit from my collection of 3 credit.

But how do you cancel the subscription after three months. Had a look around under the account section and I can't see anything in how to cancel.

    https://support.google.com/googleplay/answer/1143668?hl=en

Limit is 300MB per song. So if you merged a bunch of songs into one song you could get 85 songs per song stored giving you a total of 50,000 * 85 = 4250000 which are impossible to find.

Spotify Premium is now €5 a month (and comes with 500MB of data a month) when bought via a Vodafone PAYG SIM. Might suit some.
