    Hi folks,

In the market for a 151 car and would appreciate any advices.

    Requirements:
    - automatic
    - preferably 1.6 diesel
    - will be used for 40 mile daily commute
    - hatchback
    - max budget of about 25k
    - reliable with a decent warranty

    Advice appreciated.

I wouldn't limit myself to 1.6 litre especially when tax these days is based on emissions rather than engine size.

Maybe a DSG VW Golf or Seat Leon. Does it have to be a 151 reg, would dropping back to a 14 be an option?

The car is not for myself I should have added.

I think they are fairly set on buying a new car although maybe 14 cars are better value?

I was thinking something along the lines of an Auris or similar size.

I don't think the Auris diesel is available with an auto box.

40 miles each day is only 200 miles in a working week which is not huge. Do they really need a diesel, what about a petrol hybrid? Most hybrids are automatics, Auris is available as a hybrid:

Hybrid is an interesting option. I wouldn't know a lot about them, going to test drive one at the weekend.

Kind of half leaning towards a Focus at the minute.
