Renewing car insurance..

That time of year again when I'm shopping around for the best quote, I am struggling to try and find other places to ring, so far I have tried:

    123.ie (current insurer)
    Aviva
    Allianz
    AA
    Chill.ie

Is there anyone else I should try because the above (bar 123.ie, I want to hold off on them until I have something to go back to them with for haggling purposes) have come back with laughable quotes that they feel are competitive.

I hate doing this, answering the same questions over and over again and then when the nice person on the phone tries to get you to sign up to their policy even though the quote is a lot higher than my renewal quote

    Thanks!

You could try Liberty and a few brokers.

    I'm in same situation OP.

Rang all the ones you listed and AIG was closest to 123.ie but some of them were 50% more than I pay currently.
Just tried 25plus and they were 50€ more for same cover
123.ie would not give any reduction at all over the phone.

Probably stay with them anyway since they were still the cheapest

I read about 25plus.ie here on Boards last week (when I was doing my own renewal). I was with 123.ie / RSA for the last two years. They increased my insurance by about 25% (€170-ish) even though absolutely none of my circumstances changed, no claims, etc. They said they couldn't come down at all, not even 1c.

I shopped around about 5 or 6 different options (both brokers and directly) and, unfortunately, 123.ie were the cheapest. Then I tried out 25plus.ie and got a much more favourable rate. Instead of being +25% they were -33%, with almost identical cover save for €50 more excess. But I save that €50 in moving *anyway*, so it was a no-brainer.

I know that the brokers in particular get a higher cut for bringing *new* business to the insurance companies, so typically you're encouraged to change insurnace provider from year to year. On the back end, the insurance companies may be looking for 30+ year old males one year but 60+ year old females the next, so it can be hard to tell who will be the cheapest without shopping around.

It's a pain in the ass, but shopping around is still the best way to get the best rates, in my opinion. You can then play them off each other a bit to get few quid lower from time to time.

thanks for the info folks, so far 25plus are coming back with a decent quote but when I added step-back it went up to what 123.ie were offering...still on the increased rate, about €60 up from last year despite no changes in my circumstances or claims etc.
I don't accept the general remark " insurance is up this year..." that to me sounds like a method for the execs to pay themselves more.

    Try FBD/No Nonsense.

just tried them, and just like last year they were quoting plenty of nonsense ironically enough :D

quoteme.ie....i renewed in Jan and they were by the cheapest for me!

the lowest so far, whether I go through a local broker or 25plus.ie both have AIG as the underwriter.
Their quotes are pretty much the same as the renewal figure I received from 123.ie so I will ring them with cap in hand and see if they will lower it a bit.
If they don't budge I think I'll leave them anyway even if the cost is the same with the new insurer..just to send them a little feck off for not giving me a few quid off for being a loyal (and zero incident customer) :)
