First car

    Hey guys – I’m looking at my first car. A Fiat Punto ( 1.2 2001) – it’s just passed NCT and is taxed until July. Cost €950 Anyone have any advise on this ? I know FIAT have a poor name, but I’m thinking most of my fears should be calmed by the recent NCT.

    Buying any 14 year old car is a lottery pretty much.
    It could die on you next day, and it could drive problem free for next 5 years.

    If you are not mechanically minded, have someone who knows the stuff to have a look at the car and judge it's condition. However even the best mechanic can not give you a guarantee that car won't die next day.

    And don't assume that car which had NCT is good.
    NCT checks if car is safe and environmentally friendly. It doesn't check if it's in good condition. F.e. gearbox might be nearly undrieable and car would still pass. Clutch might be nearly gone and car would still pass. Etc,etc..
