    Boot windows off a USB.

Thats what you need. Do it from a machine that ISNT infected.

Just to add, you'll need a Windows operating system disk image (.iso) and then use the above tool to write it to a USB drive. When you turn on the machine with the Windows USB plugged in, go into the BIOS and move USB as a boot device to the top of the list. You should then be able to boot into the Windows installer just like you would if you were booting to a Windows CD.

Does Windows include tools for securely wiping drives so no data can be recovered?
Last time I used it is didn't - hence the question.

There are Linux ISOs specifically crafted for this type of work which have all the tools required included in the ISO ........ should that be necessary.

Not that I've seen anyway. They have Bitlocker encryption built into Windows 8/8.1 now I think, but no data wiping software.

If its just virus you want rid of deleting partition and creating a new one as you are installing windows has always worked for me but if its files you want rid of that cant be retrieved using specialist software windows won't do that.

DBAN or Daryks Boot and Nuke is the defacto free wiping software but you would need to install to either a disk or USB key as it needs to boot
