Road rage - was I wrong?

So I had a bit of road rage at the weekend and wanted to get some perspective.

    The scenario was this.

I approached a roundabout to turn right.
The roundabout was a standard two lane round about so as I was taking the 3rd exit and I moved onto it in the inside lane as I should do.

As I pass the second exit I see the traffic moving onto the round from the second junction is about is backed up bumper to bumper from before the roundabout straight though it, the reason being the 3rd exit I was planning on leaving on was closed forcing everyone onto the exit I entered on. So my only recourse was to leave on the 4th exit same as everyone else.
However I am stuck on the inside lane, traffic is slow moving on the outside lane. I indicate to join this traffic (I need to stop as the traffic is more or less starting and stopping.)
First car is having none of it he basically starts to ride the bump on the car in front of him and the car behind him is doing the same.
I beep the horn and point to the second guy to let me in, he pulled down his window tell me I am in the wrong "F##king lane". I say a few choice words back but of course I am in the wrong lane, I need to be able to move from the inside to the outside lane to exit.

What should I have done here?

Sounds like you didn't have much of a choice if the third exit was closed.

Hardly road rage, I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.

Always stay in your car when rage hits you, many a person has been shot or stabbed getting out of their car to confront someone.

All depends if there are signs up tellin you the exit was closed.

I was at a junction last week (bridge exit closed due to wind) and it was signposted well before the roundabout to let me know.

If there are signs up then I wouldnt just let you in either without giving you some grief.

Chances are I saw you come onto the roundabout if traffic is backed up. I would be annoyed at this moron who shouldn't even be on the roundabout.

But if there are no signs then no problem.

Even if there was a sign.
On entering the roundabout I still would need to enter the roundabout on the inner lane if exiting on the 3rd or doing a full circle and exiting on the 4th. Entereing this roundabout on the outside lane would be for cars turning left or going straight through.
So I was in the correct lane, the blocked exit just explains why the roundabout was rammed and why I could not easily move from the inside to the outside lane. Guy probably thought I entered the roundabout coming from the same direction he was and I was trying to over take cars then nip in at the end.

Guy looked like an idiot, driving a blue peugeot with a lense missing from his sun glasses! He had what sounded like mongolian yak music blaring over his stereo!

Probably on a rush home to make love to his sister!

alternatively, jump out first and do the shootin 'n' stabbin, just in case, like

Hahaha. Well last week the sign was a half mile before the roundabout. If the guy in the blue peugeot was plannin to take the closed exit id say he wouldve turned back before gettin to the roundabout, then he wouldn be annoyin everyones tits and cryin about it on here.

But ye never know what kind of character yer gona meet - he couldve wrecked a load of cars before and have a liking for driving about steamin, watchin buffy reruns and bokin over his mates.

Right or wrong the other driver should have shown some courtesy and letting you in,we all make mistakes and closed roads are not really anyones fault.
It's the biggest problem I find on the road is bullies if everyone showed a little decency the traffic would actually move quicker,

Is the inside lane not for first exit and exits up to 180 degrees with the outside lane for exits after 180 degrees, unless signage dictates otherwise in either case? Can you put a google maps link up so we know which roundabout you are asking about? Thanks

Inside lane is the lane closest to the roundabout, you cannot really exit from the inside without cutting across the outside.

My apologies - I always thought that the inside lane was the left most lane, closest to the kerb/hard shoulder. It must be the opposite way round when it comes to roundabouts. Learn something new every day :P
