Considering quitting PeoplePoint.

I feel a bit bad saying this as I took a place of someone else and my parents would be astonished if they knew I was thinking of leaving a permanent and pensionable job. But I've been there nearly 2 months and the whole atmosphere is depressing. I've met really lovely people who are good at their job and would love to help me but they are so bus that I feel bad asking. I'm not confident in the work I'm doing and some of us newer people are doing it on a wing and a prayer.

Many of the more experienced staff have put in transfer requests. One person who left last week sent an email around to everyone and said the last two years in PeoplePoint were the most stressful of his/her career. Between rent, commuting costs and daily expenses I'm not going to be able to save a lot of money after I'm paid €350 a week after tax. I can't request a transfer because I'm not long enough there.

    Am I over reacting?

Are you thinking of resigning or have you another job lined up?

I understand the Employer Assistance Officer is someone that you can talk to and they can then see if you have any other options. Have you access to one of these people?

Sorry to hear you're going through a bit of stress there. I've left 1 job after 3 weeks where it was not to my liking at all. You're there 2 months so if it's stressing you out at this stage maybe apply for other jobs. €350 per week with all expenses to come out is not a livable wage. That's just living to work and not working to live.

Have you looked out for other jobs on the market?

Sorry to hear that White Stripes Fan, I started same time as you and I've been enjoying it. I'm still a bit of a noob and have made some mistakes but the experienced people around me have always bent over backwards to help me and answer my questions.

Of course the money could be better but hey, increments and political parties looking to buy off the crucial public sector vote will hopefully take care of that over the next few years.

Nevermind what your parents think, there are plenty of job opportunities going now around the Dublin area if you do decide to leave.

If you have something better lined up, go for it. Otherwise start looking and make finding that alternative your focus whilst continuing to work. I'd never advocate staying in a job you hate, but I think it's important to have both a plan and options before making these kind of decisions. Best of luck!

Thanks for the good advice. I will start looking seriously for other work. At least my place will be filled by someone else on the panel.

I've had a similar experience in Peoplepoint. It's not a happy workplace. The pressures are huge. Case numbers at ridiculous levels. Back in tomorrow. :(

If this job is causing you extreme stress & sleepless nights do consider leaving because life is too short but before you do please consider the following...

The wages are bad at the moment but not many other clerical jobs offer a pay scale which is around 37,000 at the top point. I know it takes a long time. Maybe some overtime if available may help.

If the people around you are negative and have negative stories the work atmosphere will be negative. Forget their negative attitudes and think positive thoughts.

If the work cases are high and seems to be piling up remember you & everyone else can only do 1 case at a time. Get that into your head and don,t stress over large volumes, that is for management to stress over not you.

It is hard to start in a new position but you got this job because you showed the ability to do this job through tests & interview. You are suitable for this position so have confidence towards your work and tasks. Complete a case and be confident it's correct given what you have learnt so far. Ask if unsure you say people are nice so that is a bonus.

Give it another shot starting tomorrow, walk to your desk in the morning with confidence and think positive don,t let this job get the better of you.

    Good luck with your decision.

From my experience you should give your job at least 3-6 months before you make a decision. Saying that Peoplepoint can't be the easiest place to work

I'm staggered that there are so many negative comments about PeoplePoint. Wasn't it conceived, designed and configured to be the ultimate exemplar of excellence? Providing a first-class, quality-focused, customercentric, service-driven environment for customers and staff alike? I think Management have shown nothing short of consummate, unflinching professionalism allround.
Hats off to 'em, I say!

Black Menorca, this time I am laughing with you. Ask how many times has the Head of PP changed in the last 2 years? It celebrates its second birthday next month. Ask how many of the management team put in place in early 2013 are still there (how many HEOs and APOs are still there?). Why hasn't all Agencies migrated to PP by now? The current CO competition should have been run as a dedicated PP recruitment in early 2013.

    On this we are agreed.

I'm working on real cases now and am doing ok-ish, but I see colleagues who are there over a year and they are at their wits end. No consistancy of management. No proper training. Good people are being put in impossible situations.

And not a word from senior management conceding the very difficult situation we are in. Its business as usual, nothing to see here.

    Surreal.

Well done to DHL Express who have been officially recognised as one of Irelands 'Best Large Workplaces' for 2015 at the annual 'Great Places to Work Awards' (awards ceremony Feb. 25th.
What are the odds (or likelihood) of Peoplepoint being nominated, accessed and likewise recognised/awarded?

    Any takers?

Hey WSF, I realise that this thread is a bit old now but I hope you are no longer stressed. New jobs can have a steep learning curve and that PP is still finding its feet, doesn't help. If you are still there and still feeling stressed, have you thought of a transfer to another section, maybe one that might interest you, I'm sure there would be no bother moving? As bad as you think the place is now, I know it doesn't look it but it is getting more organsied, take it from someone who is there awhile :) Best of luck.

Just wondering if things have improved any bit for the OP or in PP in general? Heard some of the EO promotions may be placed here and am curious if things have gotten any better, from different threads it sounds like it's a really negative place to work - is this still the case? More practical questions - is there parking, a canteen etc? Would love some info on it, and to know if things are still as bad as the OP found it? Thanks Guys.

Sorry, I only saw this now.

Things have improved a lot from what I have seen and heard. :)

There is plenty of parking and kitchen facilities but no hot food canteen. there are places in close vicinity that provide soup, sandwiches and meals. Good luck in your EO competition.

It depends on who you ask, imho I think it has improved, there are some section under huge pressure to clear cases but they are making progress. After spending over ten years in my previous dept I think it is a breath of fresh air but its not perfect.

There is no canteen but each floor has a kitchenette (microwave and burco and somewher to sit) but UCD is close by which hs some good facilities and there is plenty of parking.

Despite all the negative stuff you hear there is a great atmosphere and social scene.

Does anybody know if there is flexi in peoplepoint. I was looking into getting a transfer here but someone mentioned to me that you couldn't finish before 5pm.

    There is indeed flexi.

I haven't heard of any section where you have to work to 5pm, (in the past some sections have had a rota in place where you had to work to 5:30pm once or twice a week but that is long gone). There are others where you have to be in at 9am to answer the phones.

    Does that help?

i work for PSSC\NSSO and i dont think things have changed within PP. I think what PP have and is going through is rampment through PSSC\NSSO. as in bad morale and excesive workload with limited staffing.

@ DubChie18, just out of interest, are you based in Clonskeagh?

hi, sorry to hear that you were stresssed out of this job. I don't know have you left this job or not, still I thought to ask you how it goes afterwards ?, I am after getting a job offer from people point, if you have any further update on this department it will greatly help me to make a decision. Thanks
