    Hi,

How more efficient is boiler to burn say logs than gas?

I have a stupid Baxty all in one fireplace/boiler combo. The boiler is the fireplace. I see some sort of flue in the chimney breast, can this be used as a flue for a new mixed fuel boiler? I'm thinking not but thought I'd ask.

The present boiler is v inefficient so I'm thinking of getting shut of gas completely while gaining a real fire in the sitting room

The baxi back boiler you have is gas only and the flue is rated for gas only and can't be used with anyother fuel.
Your best bet is to call in a Rgi who will give you the best option and costs for you

Gas is the cheapest fuel right now and a properly installed and commissioned gas boiler will get u at least 80 % efficiency! Can be higher.
A solud fuel fire wont get close to this

That depends on what you are paying for the logs I suppose as well. If I bought 4 ton of logs in one go that would make a difference.

Also, I have the gas on now and again through manual and occasional boost and its not warm enough yet face bills of 250 PM on average.

At least a mixed fuel boiler will distribute heat through itself and via the rads.

    Am I thinking right?

    250 a month??
My house is similar size to yours. If you install proper heating controls and an A rated gas boiler, depending on usage you'd be looking at 500 for the year. That's what mine is anyway

500 to heat a house for a year? I find that difficult to believe.
Friend who has a gas boiler and a recent one at that pays approx 350 PM to hear his house. Badly insulated I hear but that's mental

My folks have a modern boiler and fairly well insulated house and its approx 250 PM.

    500 per year ? How ?
