Driving Test & Experienced Driver

My OH has her test on Tuesday and I am wondering if she needs an experienced driver to go with her to the test.

Given the rules in relation to driving unaccompanied, can she fail for driving there on her own.

No, they won't fail her for driving to the test centre unaccompanied. They don't ask people how they got there, or who was with them. Yes, she needs to have another driver accompany her in the car. If she drives there unaccompanied, she is still breaking the law and she is just as liable to get pulled over by the Guards & face the same penalties, as she would be driving anywhere else unaccompanied. You don't get any special dispensation to drive on your own, just because you are on your way to/from your test.

Her time with the test centre personnel commences at introductions and verification of her details in the test-centre. They don't and won't care how she got there or how she leaves irrespective of the test result.

You seem already aware of the laws in relation to learner drivers so could she arrange for some fully-licenced driver to accompany her there & wait while she is on her test, until she leaves after the end?

I agree with the above, however a couple of points.

    (i) Nice to have someone there for moral support. If she fails do you want her driving home potentially quite upset? That said my first accident was on the way home after I passed :pac:

(ii) Doing a pretest pretest (sic) is very helpful to many. I certainly think it made the difference for me, you need someone in the car with you for that.

(iii) Tenuous but I'd be worried that it created a preconception with the tester I was cocky if he/she found out I'd pitched up on my own.

    Just my 2 cents.

I did my test three times and was never once asked if I had been accompanied to the test center by a fully licensed driver.
