compare house insurance

Why is this so difficult? I'm trying to shop around, and every time I have to enter long forms full of information that I don't intend to give - phone number, email etc. I can't understand why it has to be so longwinded to get a quote, and why I keep getting quoted so much higher than the advertised figures on an 'average' house. I think my house is below average, rural bungalow, rebuild cost of 160000, no contents, 3 years no claims. I'm getting quoted around 700 by all of the usual low cost insurers, when they advertise prices of around 250 for what seems like higher cover than I want.
Is there a reason why there isn't a bonkers.ie type service for house insurance, and is there any alternative to making scores of long phone calls to shop around
    :(

I know, it's real Ryanairesque. Drives me mad.

The only reason for your mobile, email, etc is so they can put you on their database to contact you in 12 months asking would you like to consider them for a quote. It's for their advantage, not yours.

€700 for a one-off bungalow is a lot. Keep shopping around.

Also, check out SCSI.ie for the rebuild costs of a bungalow in your county. It's a good website. I believe the insurers refer to it themselves.

Why no contents cover, is the house unoccupied?

Why no contents cover, is the house unoccupied?

Could be rented out unfurnished - landlord's insurance.

no, I occupy it. I'm trying to get as low a quote as possible because I'm broke. My contents aren't worth sh:t. Considering even letting the insurance go.

Tbh that quote is high enough, who are you getting this off? Try chill or some other brokers, don't just go online.
Contents usually comes as standard for a certain value or to a minimum amount for your cover, reducing this may not save much or anything, or at least compared to shopping around, don't expect offers like 123 to ever actually apply.

Still you'd be surprised what your contents would add up to, want to make sure that it wouldn't make you under covered.
