Why does the VF broadband site only show efibre and number checker says up to 100mb?

This has me stumped. I am looking to getting a friend to switch to VF broadband and where they reside they can only get ADSL and the chances of Efibre are non existent. However, when I put their number into line checker it comes back and says " Your line is suitable for our fastest BB up to 100mb!! " This is blatantly untrue but I cant see a cost for ADSL bb!!

Is this a blunder on VF's part or deliberate?

On eircom site line checker is ok ie says speed is 6mb and that is correct.

Totally deliberate. Another boardsie checked the source code and found it querys the real value then ignores it.

Vodafone want your € and telling you that your line is shîte doesn't usually encourage a sale.

Flase hope or excellent marketing, depending on your point of view.

Thanks both, all I can say is " What's the point??" And what a blooming cheek?

My other statement is too rude.

    Can comreg tell them off?

It must be an awful shock when one discovers 100mb becomes 3mb after installation!!

Mind you they have lost loads of Mobile customers so maybe the penny will drop soon .

    What is untrue about it?

That 'up to' covers everything from 0 to 100 Mb/s!

The ADSL cost is the same ..... was €35 but rising soon if not already done.

Johnboy, answer this very simple question

" What is Vodafones fastest BB? "

    I'll give you a clue

    Is it A) FIBRE

    or B) ADSL

Ah, now I see what you were getting at!

In any case last time I checked the cost for ADSL and e-fibre was the same and the ADSL included the line rental.

I *think* I had to go through the process as if I was able to get fibre (but knowing that is impossible).

The price was slated to rise from €35 to €38 this month I believe.
Still much better than Eircom's ~€53 including line rental.

That they cannot supply 'up to' 100Mb.
It only cover everything up to 100Mb if they could indeed give him 100Mb if he wished it, although they might not guarantee it full time. But to say up to 100Mb, they must at least have the possibility of supplying it.
They dont. They can only supply him up to 6Mb. So are lying to him.

If you were correct, providers could apply up the anti by advertising 'up to 1Gb/s to you mountain top copper wire phone 50 miles from the nearest exchange !'.

ADSL can be faster than VDSL far from the cab

    Interesting .....

    VF link gives {"response":"Yes 4.88MB"}

    Eircom link gives "5M_512K_RHL"

5Mb/s is approx what I am getting recently (up from 3Mb/s)
I have never seen the upload speed get close to 512K though.

Telling you you can get "upto" 100Mb when only an ADSL based product is available is about as honest as saying your connection is "Unlimited" so long as you don't exceed 300GB in a month. Not that it stopped them doing that and charging you heavily for it mind...
