I was watching ear to the ground last week and I noticed the guy raising rose veal used these. In this windy weather they would be ideal. I've looked for a few online but they looked quite expensive. The ones he had were just a canvass tied with cable ties. Anyone know where you could pick a few of these up?.

I bought a few about 2 or 3 years ago. Got Fane Valley to get them through a crowd in England. Found them usefully alright. The straps were shyte though and kind of worn out after a few uses. One bitch of a cow ate the thing clean off her calf. Haven't had to use any yet this year but worth having all the same.

You'd want to let the cow get to know the calf again after putting it on, can confuse them so leave them.in the crush for fifteen minutes. One nearly attacked the calf after it went on.

Dairy farming so shouldn't have that problem as calf only stays a day with mother. Cheers

    They're 40ish quid.
There's different ones, some have elastic to let the calf grow etc. think 'cosy calf' would be considered the best of them...or at least they're the ones advertising

Is this how evolution has progressed that calves need coats?

If a calf is weak or slow we isolate under a lamp for 2-4 feeds and then back to pen of weaker/slower drinkers

    Dairy calves

We put an old jumper on a weak calf, dairy calves. Works very well.
