Lately I've been getting the urge to visit Scandinavia, especially Denmark. Anyone on here who has been and what is Copenhagen and other cities like in terms of accommodation, eating out etc.?

    Thanks!

It's really really expensive. Nice city, lovely people but so expensive. I'd recommend Helsinki as an alternative, it's a more beautiful city, not as expensive and they use the euro.

Pluses for Copenhagen is that with 4 airlines now competing on the route from DUB you have a choice and prices are reflected in this.

CPH as a city is really nice, very walkable, people are lovely.

As regards price, it's cheap enough or certainly no more expensive then here to eat out, alcohol is expensive however and it wouldn't be my choice of city to go shopping in but it's well worth a long weekend.

+1 for CPH, lovely city and the Tivoli Gardens are well worth a visit but check that it will be open - it closes for the winter.

I don't remember Copenhagen to be that expensive except for alcohol. And even at that, I mean surely people wouldn't be thinking 10 pints every night on a weekend away would they?

Alcohol is cheep in Bodega bars. They are scattered all over the city. Copenhagen is not an overly expensive place to visit at all.

Love Copenhagen. +1 for the Tivoli Gardens. Some great pubs and nightlife. It's no dearer than Dublin and if you look round you'll find cheap places to eat, simple to get around with the metro. Christianshvn has a lovely park for walking and to see the mermaid and of course Christiania >> where you will get mostly homemade type cheap meals and drinks. Walk around. See if there is any events. Sightseeing: palaces, history, boat rides.......

Copenhagen is expensive but not as bad as Oslo. I was surprised at the amount of litter in the streets when I first went there.

Three or four days in the place is plenty but it's also worth taking in Malmo in Sweden too. Even if only for the experience of crossing the Øresund bridge.

It's not that expensive, depends on the part of the City you go to.

    Freetown is worth a Visit.

IMO you could easily spend as much in Amsterdam, also the automated rail system is excellent and runs 24 hours so you don't need to stay in the very center.

Like I said, it's not as bad as Oslo, but there is no way you could describe Copenhagen as inexpensive. Anyone visiting the Danish capital would need to budget for more than they would in most other European capitals. Obviously there are exceptions. What part of the city you go to could apply almost anywhere.

Having said that. Other towns and cities in Denmark are quite reasonable. Odense is well worth a visit. I love the place and the people there are the most chilled out I've ever met anywhere.

    Thanks everyone for the advice.

I'm definitely considering a city break in Copenhagen later this year.:)

You can combine a trip to Copenhagen with a visit to Malmo in Sweden crossing over on the bridge by train.

I never said inexpensive, just as someone living in the Netherlands and working in Germany I don't find it that bad. Oslo on the other hand is very expensive.

Only thing I really noticed was alcohol and cigarettes cost more.
