New Brake Pads & Discs + grinding sound

Had the brake pads & discs changed on my 06 Honda Civic before Christmas, & all was going well until recently I've noticed when braking for the first few times after starting the car overnight or suchlike that there's a grinding kind of sound when I brake not dissimilar to when the pads were worn down before changing (but nowhere near as loud) . This grinding sound admittedly diminishes as the journey progresses & I brake more often, so I suppose I'm asking is this normal in cooler conditions (are the pads cold & 'harder' ) or should I get these re checked to see if they're faulty or suchlike?

Any chance you've noticed this mainly after it's been raining?

Brake discs can form surface rust on them overnight, this just gets taken off by the brake pads the next time you use them.

I have notice this a lot lately. A good drive takes the noise away. Brakes and disks and a good warm up

Is it a squeel or a grinding?
If grinding, you have an issue. A squeel is not an issue at all. Can be cured by removing pads, cleaning up everything and putting a skim of copper grease on the back of the pad. Its tiny vibrations that cause squeel and the grease kills that.

This time of year the salt and grit on the roads add to the rust which forms like this. A couple of brake applications should return it to normal.

Actually I have noticed a layer of light rust on the discs, more like rust rings for want of a better description. The fact the sound goes away is probably the key, before I had the pads & discs changed there was a grinding every time I braked (FTR this lasted 2 days, had them changed pretty sharpish when I copped the sound) but ATM the sound is going after I've braked 3 or 4 times...

Anyway, getting the car serviced this week, will ask them to have a quick look at them while they have the car in.
