Inter railing questions

Most of the posts in here seem to be about J1s/Thailand this year, but just have a few questions about inter railing if anyone could lend some advice.

When you buy the actual ticket, do you have to select there and then the dates you're going for or is it just valid from the first day you use it? We're thinking about getting the 30 day pass, so just wondering will we have to put the dates of travel down when we buy it or how does this work? Presuming USIT are the best to buy it from or what are better options?

If we're going for 30 days, what kind of money can we expect to spend? All lads who aren't looking to be living luxuriously for the month but at the same time will want to see a few of the main sights in each city. Mainly sticking to eastern Europe, have heard €50 a day is a decent guide and that includes accommodation.

Finally, the route we're *planning* is Krakow > Vienna > Budapest > Zagreb > Lake Bled > Munich > Prague > Berlin > Amsterdam, would this be doable in 30 days? Have researched the trains and it seems fairly straight forward with direct trains between pretty much all of them locations, open to change if anyone has any spots to recommend/not recommend. Cheers if anyone can offer some advice!

Re the €50 a day, with your route it will be fine for the Eastern countries like Poland / Czech / Croatia (you'd get by on 1/2 that in most of them) but you will barely scrape by in Vienna / Berlin / Amsterdam on that amount.

Make sure you have an emergency fund, especially as the last two legs will be two of the most expensive.

If you start west and go east it will get easier as you go along so worth bearing that in mind.

Hey, you just have to decide your start date. You will in your travel days/trains taken as you go. I tend to buy from the USIT "shop" as they'll print it there and then (no waiting on mr postman).

In regards, the money there's no one answer that suits everyone. Obviously Eastern Europe is a hell of a lot cheaper than the likes of Berlin/Amsterdam. 50per day is a good marker but keep an eye on your sending as you go.

Grand cheers lads, yeah €50 a day is just a guide really, will be days where we will spend less and days where we will spend more, planning on probably bringing a bit extra for Amsterdam at the end too because I heard that is very expensive.
