The council sent out cowboys to put in new radiators and heating system last year, i decided to take up the carpet in the box room and replace it with wooden flooring but to my amazment when i ripped up the carpet there is a 5 by 5 inch hole from box room floor to sitting room ceeling where the radiator copper pipes go through so now when im in bed i can hear everything in the sitting room like i was there.
Would anybody know how i could fill this hole as im new to the do it your self home improvment im not sure if i fill the hole with something could it react with the copper pipe n set fire to it may seem a bit silly but cant find any answers on google please help! Thanks

Just underlay & floor over as if it did not exist. Its not big enough to worry about. No amount of weight will snap the board over a hole of that size.

It would cost you about 10 euro for a can of expandable foam (like shaving foam that sets hard). Squirt that into the hole and it will expand to block off the gap through which sound easily travels. It's easy to trim off the excess with a Stanley/ bread knife after it sets hard (read the tin)
