Frustrating 3G issues

Hi, I’ve been having issues with certain activities over 3G for well over a year now and I’m at breaking point, so I’m looking for some advice.

Things that do work: General browsing, downloading, receiving emails, most apps (Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter etc.)

Things that don’t work: Sending e-mails (stay in Outbox until on WiFi), Play Store (just won’t connect), Uploading (i.e. uploading images to Imgur), some apps (MyFitnessPal for example)

I’m on Nexus 5, with O2 (or Three now, I suppose). I use LTE (recommended) as my Network setting but it doesn’t work. I change to 3G only and restart, and it still doesn’t work.

Anyone ever have similar issues or have any advice they can offer?

    Thanks,

Email will be SMTP related most likely. When your send emails they send via your CURRENT ISP, not your email provider. If your SMTP server is set to say vodafone, who are your ISP in the house, but you're connected on o2(three) then you cant reach the vodafone server. If you have 3G coverage at home I'd recommend setting O2s SMTP server as your outbound and then kill wifi when sending emails. Receiving doesnt care.

I don't see why Vodafone wouldn't allow SMTP traffic from other ip addresses. As long as your credentials are in order it shouldn't matter.

All providers do this, they block smtp from other providers to combat spam and also control ip addresses issued by them getting blacklisted
