small house with large kitchen. Does anyone have experience with indoor boilers? Do they ever smell or are they noisy? Any advantage to them?

    Thanks a lot,

    Thanks a lot,

Outside grant vortex all the way. If you've access to nat gas then go with that

Outside firebird is your only one.

If you knew anything about new oil boilers you wouldn't be saying firebird

Why makes grant a superior boiler to firebird in your opinion?

Why makes grant a superior boiler to firebird in your opinion?

    Where do I start.
The firebird 35kw boiler is lighter than the 26kw grant.
Grant use 5mm steel. Firebird 4mm
Firebird condensate traps are absolutely terrible
Firebirds boiler is upside down. It tries go force heat to go down resulting in damaged baffles, sooting.
    Door seals also bad
Can't think of anything else at present but if I do I'll add it

OP not clear if talking about oil or gas. Modern gas boilers are very clean, quiet and have high efficiency. They are also smaller than they used to be. With a large kitchen, why wouldn't you have it indoors, inside a cupboard?

I don't know anything about boilers but we live in a smallish house and have an indoor boiler. That said, it is in a purpose built little room at one side of the house.

To be honest its grand but you can definitely hear it in parts of the house. Our room is almost directly over it and our living room next to it. While you can hear it, it doesn't really bother me and is by no means a problem.

However, I would say if you have the option/space to put it outside, I'd put it outside.

thanks to all who replied. It will be oil heating. Its just that I have always thought a boiler needs to be outside but recently I have seen one inside and it appeared neat and efficient.

I have an indoor oil boiler, no issues with it at all. no smell of oil.

You can hear it though when its running. But it's not as loud as my kids.

recently got a new indoor grant boiler, much quieter than the previous one, no issues with it, condenser type

Indoor gives off heat you would otherwise loose outside but outside boilers are far cheaper as they don't have as strict regulations... In case the fumes kill you. The have different flus. Outside boilers look ugly if rusted.

If you put it outside, put it right next to your house as a small run of pipe will waste a hell of a lot of heat and costs a fortune to insulate.

Indoor boilers can be a pain if they leak oil
.. In 10 years expect it to leak oil on the floor at least once.

You used to be able to use different cheaper oil outside, but I think its no longer used.

A grant vortex is a good boiler although a dirt cheap non condensing firebird will do a job. Unless the condensing boiler is set up just right, it will be no more efficient than a normal boiler.
