Suggestions sought - something interesting, under 5k

Guys, I'm thinking of picking up a second car that would interesting (subjective, I know) and not too expensive to run. Ideally it should be in very good nick, so not something that's cheap because it's in rag order. I'd like something interesting that I could be a little bit proud of.

Here are my ideas so far, and I'd love to hear more:

    1. VW Corrado G60 - interesting because it's got a supercharger
    2. Alfa GTV - interesting because it's an Alfa
    3. Alfa 147 Q2 - interesting because it's got an LSD on the front
    4. Fiat Coupé - interesting because it has an interesting design and is fun
    5. MGF/MGTF - interesting because it is mid-engined and fun

What else is out there that could be bought for 5k or under (this bit is flexible), in good condition, and not cost a fortune to tax/insure?

Any more ideas? It doesn't have to be a car that's for sale today! (I wouldn't be buying until next late in the year anyhow).

    Here's another idea:

Porsche 944 - Interesting because it is just coming into classic tax territory, it's a Porsche, and it's rear-wheel drive.

    Thanks for the suggestion :)

    MR-2 - interesting because?

(I'd probably be most interested in the first generation MR-2, as they are rear-wheel drive, but I wonder could you get one in very good nick under budget?)

the mr-s is a rear engine, rear wheel drive convertible which, if produced by any other manufacturer would be considered interesting. the older mr2 is nice too, but as you say, finding a clean one is very very hard. a member on here is selling a nice rev5.

    Cooper S?
    Supercharged, great handling.
As close as you are going to get to an original classic mini - they seem intent on mutating into a 5dr golf these days.

Edit - if you're confident enough to drive one of them then I guess an MX-5 is on the table too?
