Unless it's a Jap import then it most likey it is miles rather than km as km only came in Irish cars from 2005 onwards. It's very possible the NCT tester got it wrong.

If it's got both miles and kilometres speedo dial it'll be miles,
If its only got kilometres, its kilometres.

    Late 04 could be either.

If its like this, then its miles

I bought a new A4 in August 04 and it had a km dash. I'd say most cars supplied from the middle of the year had km clocks

From memory the facelift 06 has km, prior to this was miles.

Should be obvious when you drive it? Follow a sign to somewhere that is a known distance away, e.g. 5km and see how much the odometer changes

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

Can't be right. Every car sold new in Ireland from 01/01/2005 must have had km.

Yep, and most started coming in in summer/autumn 04

Would this not have been better to have asked before purchasing?

Colm has it right. If the speedo is in miles then its miles and vice versa. Seen a good few dealer adverts lately where they quote the wrong one. one in particular is still advertising it wrong even after it was pointed out to him.

Not all cars registered in Ireland since 2005 are in Kms. A few years ago, I hired a Focus from Budget. It was 2010 and not an import. It was in miles with kms as a secondary on the speedo.

If the speedo numbers are: large in miles, small in kilometers then cars milage is in miles.

”Where’s the revolution? Come on, people you’re letting me down!”

I think whats trying to be explained here is the following:

One set of numbers on speedo - the values are km.
Two sets of numbers - the larger is miles, the smaller is km.

Not possible. Must have been an import.

How do you know it was not an import?

Just going by the reg. It was 10D101xx.

I was under the impression that an import would be 10D120xxx. Maybe I'm wrong.

I think they only used 120xxx for one year, definitely not possible for an Irish car to have speedo in miles.

Some rental companies use UK spec vehicles. Some main dealers sold new UK sourced cars.

Not if it was imported in 2010.
Imports only get those high number plates, when imported after year is finished. (and only up to 2011 od 2012)
If you imported 2010 car in 2010, then you would just get a consecutive number

You could always put the reg into motorcheck and it'd usually show up.

I doubt it doesnt indicate ANYTHING on the dash and just has numbers!

If so, drive at "100" on a motorway and if youre flying past everyone, then its Miles!! :D

Drive a known journey and see does the milometer match the journey.
