Lost all freeview channels - no signal

    Last week, my freesat channels occasionally started to break up - I thought it was just because of the snow affecting the reception. However, this afternoon, while watching TV, all channels seem to have failed: "No signal".

    I presume the satellite is still in position. The dish on the wall hasn't moved; a USB plugged into the receiver works and plays videos so that part is OK. I reinstalled the software update to no effect.

    so could it be that part of the receiver that is now defunct?

    The dish on the wall hasn't moved;

    Are you sure, very little movement - left/right up/down - can lose the signal. It could also be an LNB or connection problem. Can you test another receiver on the dish or your receiver on another dish to narrow down the problem.

    Problem solved. I tried connecting the satellite finder, got all red lights plus the green and a great buzzing sound - then a picture. Reconnected just the cable and bingo - picture and sound. And I think the picture is actually sharper than before.

    Thanks for your help, guys. Knowing nothing about electronics, perhaps my connecting the sat finder (which requires power from the receiver) has just got something going.

    I have to admit that when I first connected the finder, the buzzing was so loud, I jumped a mile with the fright!! Perhaps I shocked the system into reactivation.

    The connection may have been loose/dodgy.
