reading comics from the start

I've never been one to read comics before but wouldn't mind starting with the walking dead. Is it possible to get physical copies of the comics or would it be cost prohibitive? (I mean backdated to the beginning)

You can buy them in volumes off Amazon for example.

Get the compendiums, volumes 1 & 2 cover the first 100 odd issues, there is a lot of reading in them, both available reasonably enough on Amazon.

I did this about 2 years ago, it takes you up to issue 96.

They are largish books though and a bit unwieldy for reading, say in bed or to take with you on transport etc.

I have just now ordered the rest of the comics as "volumes" I think it starts with Volume 18. This are far more manageable I think they cover 4 copies of the comic each.

A volume is 6 issues I believe, although I don't have physical copies of them.

I'd go with either the volumes or the "books". I have the books as I prefer the hardback!

As said above the compendiums are quite massive and a bit awkward for reading.

I have been thinking of doing the same. I looked on Amazon and the compendiums look massive. There are some pictures that customers have posted up to give you an idea of the size of them and they're definitely big.

@frash how did you find the compendiums ? The only time I'll get to read them will be in bed before snoozy time (probably end up dreaming about zombies)

The arent great for reading in bed, very heavy.

I found the best way of reading them was at a table, ie something to lean on.

While the Volumes may be more manageable, the comparatively low price for the compendiums for the back catalogue vs the cost of the Volumes for the back catalogue was too great to ignore.

Think I need to give them a second read. I've forgotten how awesome the Governor's story arc was.

Might be a bit heavy for bed unless you were sitting up.
Fine for an armchair or couch though.

    What to do??

With having a young family having time to myself is very limited so usually a bit of readying before lights out is really my only option. Maybe the books would be a better option? Has anyone on here read them in digital form on a tablet?

I've bought the last 10 digitally issues or so on comixology

Buying digitally from there the volumes are priced from £5.99 to £10.49, physical copies might be cheaper. I LOVE the panel-by-panel view option they offer though.

Read issue 1 on the comp last week. I found it very easy to scan through on the screen. I had to stop myself from glossing over the dialogue and looking at the art work too
