Pioneer XDJ-R1 - Use and reviews?

    Hi,

I am considering an upgrade on my DJing kit, and I have always been a Pioneer CDJ user. Having seen the Pioneer XDJ-R1 launch well over a year ago and finding out that there were bugs on its initial release, what is it like now? Are there any experienced users who can either persuade/dissuade me from buying the unit?

    Thanks,

    Seanie.

I've never liked the idea of having absolutely everything relying on one unit. If it goes pear shaped, your stuck with it. Granted, you have the same problem with a mixer and two CDJ's, but the chances of a mixer going down are remote. The XDR-R1 is fairly consumer level, I wouldn't consider it a production or pro standard set up, if that is what you are after.

I have one and love it, only problem is the headphone cue is a bit crap. If you're used to DJMs especially. Other than that, it works lovely with Traktor!

    Thanks for the replies folks.

Like a lot of the recent Pioneer additions, software glitches do occur from time to time. I still use CDs hardcore myself during gigs, so I wouldn't rely on the USB doing the library work. A lot of problems I have heard concerning any Pioneer deck is mostly to do with the USB interfaces. Seems odd, as that is what they have geared towards.

    Headphones-wise, I'm an HD-280 Pro user. ;)

Ironclaw, I think it is a matter of what you have and how you use it that determines if it is a consumer or pro level standard. Granted, seeing the XDJ-R1 beside a full Pioneer coffin laden with e.g. the CDJ 2000NSX and one of their latest full size mixers, this little baby will look ****e! :D

My brothers selling one at the moment for €600. He really likes it but wants to upgrade to CDJs. PM if interested, I'll pass you his details.

Sure. I'd like to know how old it is (and by proxy, the warranty), software edition, and so on. PM me his details. I much prefer a CDJ setup also. I do have a CDJ 500 Limited (X2) + DJM 600 mixer combo, flightcased, that I'll probably be selling soon. I have peeled back on the mobile gigs in the past 2 years, so, regrettably, it will be surplus to requirements.
